In looking at 1 Corinthians 16:2, “Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as Yahuwah hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.” There is no reference for a public meeting made here, much less a reference to the first week day as a holy day.

It is crucially important to note the the words ‘that there be no gatherings when I come’.  Paul would have been a heretic to tell them not to give their regular weekly tithe or offering ‘when he came’, for such an instruction would have been entirely against Yahuwah’s requirements.

This verse is an exhortation by Paul to the believers in Corinth to set aside money to help their poorer brethren in Jerusalem and it was to be done before he arrived so that there would be no delay or last minute scramble, because he was on a tight schedule to reach Jerusalem before the feast.

After the 7^th day Sabbath had passed, the first week day morning was the time the believers paid bills and settled accounts. Therefore, Paul suggests that something for their needy brethren be put aside so that it would be on hand all ready and packaged when he came. It is interesting to mention that La Santa Biblia (a Spanish translation) says, “at home”, meaning that this was to be done privately. There is nothing in the verse that even remotely suggests that there is any sacredness attached to the first day of the week.                                          

The Bible nowhere commands or suggests first week day keeping and Yahuwah refers to it as one of the six working days (Ezekiel 46:1).
