Program 25: “Covered With His Blood, Whiter Than Snow”

Learn what it means to be clothed in the righteousness of Christ.

Welcome to WLC Radio, a subsidiary of World’s Last Chance Ministries, an online ministry dedicated to learning how to live in constant readiness for the Savior's return.

For two thousand years, believers of every generation have longed to be the last generation. Contrary to popular belief, though, Christ did not give believers “signs of the times” to watch for. Instead, he repeatedly warned that his coming would take even the faithful by surprise. Yahushua urgently warned believers to be ready because, he said, “The Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” [Matthew 24:44]

WLC Radio: Teaching minds and preparing hearts for Christ's sudden return.

Part 1: (Miles & Dave)

Miles Robey: Hello, hello! Welcome to WLC Radio. I’m your host, Miles Robey, and with me is Dave Wright.

Dave Wright:
Thank you so much for joining us! We’re glad you’ve made us a part of your day.

Miles:
So, Dave. Got a question for you.

Dave:
Yeah? What’s that?

Miles: Have you ever had a wardrobe malfunction?

Dave: A ward—I don’t think so . . . no, wait. Yes, there was one time when I was about, oh, twelve or thirteen, I guess.

Miles: So what happened?

Dave:
No. Just . . . no. I’m not going to broadcast one of my most embarrassing moments around the world on shortwave radio!

Miles: Fair enough. Well, that’s kind of what I want to talk about today.

Dave: My embarrassing wardrobe malfunction?

Miles: Not yours. But I do want to talk about wardrobe malfunctions. Before we get started on that, though, I want to bring any first time listeners up to speed.

You’ll hear Dave and me refer to Yah, or Yahuwah. On WLC Radio, we prefer to use the actual name of the Father, rather than call Him by titles that can just as easily refer to false gods. And the Son’s name is very similar: it’s Yahushua.

So, now you know: when we refer to Yah or Yahuwah, we’re talking about the Father. Yahushua: We’re talking about the Saviour.

Soooo: Wardrobe malfunctions.

Dave:
You going to share with us one of your many . . . experiences?

Miles: Ha! You wish! No, I want to talk about a wardrobe malfunction that’s a whole lot more serious than having your shirt tail hanging out your fly, or walking around the office with toilet paper trailing from your shoe.

The message to the Laodiceans in Revelation 3 is “you say you are rich and increased in goods and in need of nothing, while in reality, you’re wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.”

The divine remedy is given in the next verse where Yahushua says: “ I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.” [Revelation 3:18]

This is what I want to talk about today. What is this nakedness that we’re not aware we even have? What are these white garments? And how do we get them?

Dave: I’m glad you asked, Miles. I’ve never really thought of it as a “wardrobe malfunction” but, you’re right. It’s very serious to lack the white garments, and yet the rewards if we have them, are beyond anything that our finite minds can grasp.

First, we’re speaking in symbols here, so the nakedness Yahushua declares we all have is spiritual. We’re all spiritually naked.

Miles: We’re in need of, well, everything.

Dave:
But notice, in this message to the Laodiceans, that though we’re in need of everything, we think we’re pretty good! We think we’re “rich and increased with goods and in need of nothing.”

Isaiah sheds some light on just what we’re so proud of and what, in Yah’s eyes, is so lacking. Would you turn over to Isaiah 64 and read verse six for us?

Miles: Sure. Let’s see . . . Isaiah 64, verse 6: “we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”

Dave: Here is the definition of “garments” as a symbol. It’s righteousness. In Isaiah, our righteousness is as “filthy rags”. The word here translated as “filthy rags” actually refers to menstrual rags. It’s the filthiest thing Isaiah could think of to compare our righteousness to; by the time we get to Revelation, though, we don’t even have that to cover us. We’re naked.

Obviously, gaining the “white garments” is very important, because—

Miles: Hold on just a sec. Before you go on, I just want to define what we’re talking about when we say “righteous.”

Dave:
Oh, right!

Miles: Modern dictionaries generally define “righteousness” as, quote, “The quality of being morally right or justifiable.”

Dave: Okaaaay . . .

Miles: But you know me. I like my antique, 200+ year old dictionary. It provides definitions that are more close to what the words meant when the Bible was translated into English. And in there it defines righteousness as “Purity of heart and rectitude of life.” Rectitude is morally correct behavior and thinking. Righteousness is “Conformity of heart and life to the divine law.” That’s righteousness.

Dave:
Thanks. Those are good definitions.

Miles: A lot more there than the modern dictionaries, that’s for sure.

Dave: I’m glad you shared this. We need to know this, because at the end, once everyone has made his or her choice, everyone will either be righteous—forever. Or, they’ll remain filthy—forever—and be lost.

Once everyone has made a decision, either to be loyal to Yah, or remain in rebellion with Satan, Yahushua will declare it is all over. It’s recorded in Revelation 22, verse 11.

Miles: Let me read that here . . . Uh. Says: “He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; [and] he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; [and] he who is holy, let him be holy still.”

Dave: This is serious! A time is coming soon when it will all be over. Everyone will have decided for or against Yah. And there will be no changing after that; no going back.

Dave: If your sins are not forgiven because they are unacknowledged and unconfessed, you will have chosen Satan’s side. No matter how much more time Yah might give you, you would stay on his side.

Miles: And “He who is righteous,” (or pure in heart and life) will remain righteous.

Dave:
If surrender to the will of Yahuwah is your daily habit, if you are ever reaching after holiness, attempting to bring your life in conformity to the divine will, holiness finds it has nothing more to require. You may not be perfect. There may still be things of which you are unaware, but if it is in the heart to ever and always conform to the revealed will of Yah, than the Father, in reading the heart, sees that the motivations are pure. You are accepted, covered by the blood of Yahushua. You will remain ONE with Yahuwah throughout eternity! No future temptation will ever cause you to sway in your allegiance to Him.

Miles: I’m glad you qualified that, Dave. I was getting a little uncomfortable there. Because it’s not our righteousness. It’s Yahushua’s.

Dave: Absolutely! Yahushua is “the Lamb of [Yah], which taketh away the sin of the world.” [John 1:29] The blood of the sacrificial lambs was symbolic of the blood of Yahushua. It’s his blood that covers all who turn to him in repentance and faith.

His righteousness covers our failings and we stand before Yahuwah as though we’ve never sinned.

Miles: Righteousness by faith is the only kind of righteousness there is.

Dave:
Romans 3:10 tells us: “There is none righteous, no, not one.” As sinners, it’s not possible to make ourselves righteous! All any of us can do is to ask for, and by faith accept, the righteousness of Yahushua.

Miles: So how does this work? You know, we toss around all these terms, but can you explain a bit more? How can we be righteous, or pure in heart and mind, just by faith? It’s so easy to slip into salvation by works even without realizing it, but I know that’s not where it’s at.

Dave: When righteousness by faith is fully accepted and understood, it is living without sin.

When the blood of Yahushua is accepted by faith, you are crucified with Him: by faith.

Then, just as Yahushua was resurrected to life, you are resurrected to a new life in him! This is done by faith in his righteousness. It’s much more than just an intellectual understanding. It’s an experience.

Miles: I like that. It reminds me of Galatians 2, which says: “I am crucified with Yahushua, therefore “I” no longer live. Yahushua lives in me and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of Yah, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” [Galatians 2:20]

Dave: We’ve all “sinned and come short of the glory of Yah.” [Romans 3:23] Because of this, it’s simply not possible for someone who has sinned to become righteous by suddenly starting to keep the law—even if we could.

Miles: Yeah, but if we could keep the law, wouldn’t we then be righteous?

Dave: Current keeping of the law doesn’t atone for past sins. It also doesn’t change the natural inclinations of the mind. And let’s face it: we’ve all had our minds warped by temptations we’ve given in to.

We all have inherited and cultivated tendencies to sin. It’s only when we accept the death of Yahushua—by faith—that it’s possible for us to be recreated in the image of Yah.

Miles: So, just how are we to access Yahushua’s life? How do we, how do I, reach the point where his is mine?

Dave: The great and precious promises. That’s how. They can be claimed each day, each hour, each minute! Whatever you need, whatever temptation you find yourself facing, Yah’s got a promise to meet your need.

When a temptation comes, there are only two possibilities: commit the sin or ask for help.

Yahuwah has promised to help each person who wants victory. He’ll give you the strength you need to overcome every temptation.

Miles: Reminds me of that passage in James that says: “Submit yourselves therefore to Yahuwah. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to Yahuwah, and He will draw nigh to you.” [James 4:7, 8]

Don’t go away, folks. When we return, we’re going to get into just how you can obtain Yahushua’s righteousness.

* * *Part 2: (Miles & Dave)

Miles: You’ve got three kids, Dave. Only one still at home.

Dave:
Yep.

Miles: We’ve got two. And as parents, you know, we tell our kids to do the best they can. We don’t punish a child for making an honest mistake or for accidents.

My wife had a really beautiful vase her late grandmother gave her. It meant a lot to her. So, on her birthday, we get her some flowers and my daughter arranges them in this special vase.

Dave: Uh-oh. Why do I have a feeling this isn’t going to end well?

Miles: Probably because it doesn’t! Anyway, in carrying it to the table, somehow my daughter managed to drop the vase. It shattered on the tile in the kitchen. No gluing it back together. Just demolished.

Dave:
Mm, that’s too bad. Was she upset?

Miles: Well, she wasn’t home yet, but I got upset because I knew how much it meant to her. When she got home, the flowers, looking a bit bent, were in a pitcher and my daughter had to confess what she’d done.

Now, of course my wife was sad about the vase, but she didn’t get angry! She didn’t scold or punish. Why? Because, she explained, our daughter obviously didn’t do it on purpose. It was an accident! And she doesn’t punish or scold for accidents or honest mistakes.

Dave: We all make mistakes, so she’s understanding when your kids make mistakes.

Miles: Exactly. She’s got the philosophy that as long as a person does the best they can, that is all that can be expected.

Dave:
A beautiful, understanding attitude for a parent to take.

Miles: Yeah, she’s great. Well, my point is, as children of the Heavenly Father, we’re all doing the best we can. And because we know that He knows we’re doing the best we can, it’s easy to assume that “the best we can do” is good enough! But it’s not.

Dave: No, it really isn’t. And that is where Yahushua’s righteousness comes in. I want to take a look at a passage of Scripture that really explains this well. Would you turn over to Zechariah 3 and read for us?

Miles: Which verse?

Dave:
Verse one. Just start reading there and I’ll stop you.

Miles: And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of Yahuwah, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. And Yahuwah said unto Satan, Yah rebuke thee, O Satan; even Yahuwah that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?”

Dave: As the high priest, Joshua bore the sins of the people when he carried the blood of the sacrificial offerings into the Most Holy Place on Day of Atonement. He’s a symbol of all of us. We stand before the judgment bar of Yah, just as Joshua did in Zechariah’s vision, and Satan stands there, too, accusing us.

Okay. Go on.

Miles: Uh . . . “Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.”

Dave:
What did Isaiah say our righteousness is like?

Miles: Filthy, bloody rags.

Dave: So what does this tell us about Joshua’s righteousness? What does this tell us about our righteousness? Or, as you defined, our “purity of thought and moral behaviour,” our conformity to the divine law?

Miles: It’s no good. It’s filthy.

Dave:
Exactly. Our righteousness is filthy. We have no righteousness. We must have the righteousness of Yahushua imputed to us, and imparted to us. It’s the only hope we have!

Now read the next verse. It’s beautiful!

Miles: And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him.”

Dave: Joshua couldn’t even remove his filthy garments. He was helpless to change his state. The command was given to remove the filthy garments. Now he’s standing there naked. Think about that a moment. He’s standing before Yah, before Satan, before who knows how many observers. And he’s naked.

Miles: Worse than any nightmare you ever had about appearing nude in public!

Dave:
Right! It’s a very uncomfortable feeling. He’s exposed. He’s vulnerable. But this is a necessary step. Before new garments can be put on him, the old ones have first to be removed.

Are you willing to stand before Yah, totally exposed? Are you willing to let Him search your heart, search out every hidden sin—even the ones of which you may be unaware? Are you willing to have your own inner heart—

Miles: Which we know is desperately wicked.

Dave: Yes, are you willing to have the true state of your own heart exposed to yourself?

We either submit to this process now or when it’s too late to be saved. Because it’s going to happen: either now with our cooperation, or later when it’s too late.

So let’s see what happens next. Finish that verse and then go on to the next.

Miles: Okay, um . . . “And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment. And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of Yah stood by. And the angel of Yah protested unto Joshua, saying, Thus saith Yahuwah of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.”

Dave: Who removed Joshua’s filthy garments? Did he remove them himself?

Miles: No, he couldn’t. He was helpless.

Dave:
And so are we. We’re helpless to improve ourselves. Any attempt at self-improvement simply compounds our guilt because we’re attempting to save ourselves by our own efforts. It’s making a lie of Scripture which states that there is “none righteous, no not one” and “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of Yah.” [Romans 3:10, 23]

It’s only as we confess our sins, standing naked before Yah, admitting our helplessness, that Yahuwah can remove our filthy garments and cover us with the righteousness of Yahushua.

Miles: You said, “admitting our helplessness.” I think that’s an important point. In Zechariah’s vision, Satan was standing there as the . . . the prosecuting attorney, if you will. He was accusing Joshua of committing all these sins and Joshua said nothing! There was nothing he could say! He was guilty and everyone knew it.

We need to be willing to admit our wrongs, too.

Dave: As long as we’re intent on making excuses, we’re not admitting our need of a Saviour, are we?

Miles: No. So then, how do we get the righteousness of Yahushua?

Dave:
You actually read the answer to your question in our last segment.

Miles: I did? Where?

Dave: Revelation 3. Unlike Joshua, the Laodiceans boast that they are rich, and increased with goods and in need of nothing. But the divine remedy is the same. Why don’t you read it for us again? Revelation 3, verses 18 to 20.

Miles: “I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

Dave: See? Literally everything we need, He has pledged to provide!

  • You’re wretched and miserable? Buy of Me gold tried in the fire.
  • You’re blind? Ask Me for eyesalve.
  • You’re naked? Obtain from Me the white raiment of My righteousness so that you might be clothed.

It’s all Yahushua. His life is mine and I stand, faultless, before the throne of Yah.

Miles: So . . . you’re telling me you’re sinless.

Dave: Why, yes!

Haven’t you noticed my perfection?

Miles laughs: Honestly? No. I haven’t.

Dave: Aw, well. That’s because you’re looking at me. You need to look at Yahushua. You see, his life is mine. His righteousness covers my nakedness. His perfect trust, his perfect obedience, covers my stumbling, halting faith, my disobedience, and when Yah looks at me, it is as though He is looking at the life of His own Son, because the pure righteousness of Yahushua covers me.

Paul explains this in Ephesians 1. Would you read verses 7 to 10?

Miles: “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him.”

Dave:
Yahuwah is pure, unadulterated love. He is also just. Now as a just and merciful Heavenly Father, He doesn’t expect the impossible of His children. He knows you have no strength in yourself to overcome inherited and cultivated tendencies to sin. And this is where many get confused.

When they first become Christians, they accept by faith, Yahuwah’s forgiveness for sins in the past. But they fail to have consistent victories in daily living because they start living as though victory were suddenly dependent upon them.

And it’s not. Anyone who relies on his own strength will fail. Always.

Miles: So, how do you access his life and righteousness?

Dave: You ask for it. Ask, Believe & Claim. Philippians 4 states: “I can do all things through Yahushua who strengthens me.” Yahushua lived a perfect life, while still bearing the nature of Adam after the fall. This is what is meant when Scripture says He “condemned sin in the flesh.” And because He did that, He ensured victory for every single one of us. All we have to do is, by faith, claim His victory on our behalf.

Do you remember Yahushua’s prayer in John 17?

Miles: Oh, that we all might be one? He prayed: “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us.” [John 17:21]

Dave:
When you are one with Yahushua, you don’t commit sin. His will is your will. His choices, are your choices. Just as He lived to do the will of His Father, so will you, because you will be one.

Now you’re not going to ever realize it. We still have our fallen natures. But when we are ONE with Yahushua, His righteousness covers our nakedness and we are accepted in the Beloved.

* * *Daily Promise

Hello! This is Elise O’Brien with your Daily Promise from Yah’s Word.

According to the International Ornithologists’ Union, there are approximately 10,500 known species of birds in the world today. Of those, one species has the most numbers by far.

Care to guess which bird that is? It’s the chicken! With 25 billion chickens in the world, the crowing, feathered wonders outnumber every other species of bird, and are way more than the total number of humans in the world.

As a child, I thought the feathers of roosters were especially beautiful. It was the iridescence of the plumage that I found so pretty. However, five years ago, we moved to the country and the neighbors on both sides of us have roosters. Multiple roosters! Way more roosters than they need. I mean, why does anyone need more than one rooster?

I have to confess I was getting quite grumpy at the incessant noise when, one day, I reread the story of Peter’s betrayal of the Saviour. When Peter heard the rooster crow that long ago, early morning, he wasn’t thinking about the irritating sound. He wasn’t thinking of his wife’s chicken noodle soup or that chickens outnumber humans. Instead, he was confronted, face-to-face, with his greatest betrayal.

Yahushua had warned him, “Before a cock crows, you shall deny Me three times!”

And that is exactly what happened. Peter, afraid that he, too, would be arrested if it became known he was a follower of Yahushua, denied knowing the Saviour. When pressed, he denied knowing the Saviour again, and again, the last time, throwing in a few curses to sound convincing.

Yahushua turned, and looked at him. Not with anger, or insult. Not even sadness. Yahushua looked at him with pure love; complete and total understanding.

And it broke Peter’s heart. Roosters, in that moment, were a reminder of his life’s greatest failure.

But the important thing is, Peter didn’t stay a failure. He repented. Unlike Judas, Peter didn’t go and hang himself. He went and wept.

Yahushua’s forgiveness was instantaneous. By repenting, Peter accepted the gift of forgiveness.

You can be forgiven, too! Psalm 134 says: “Yahuwah is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” [Psalm 134:18]

You know what? I don’t mind roosters so much anymore. Now, they’re a reminder of the Saviour’s love, understanding, and instantaneous forgiveness.

We’ve been given great and precious promises. Go, and start claiming!

* * *Part 3: (Miles & Dave)

Miles: It’s so easy in our desire to be saved, to shift our focus off the Saviour and onto ourselves. Even when we genuinely want to honor Yah and do what’s right, it’s so easy to start zeroing in on what we’re doing or not doing; what we’re eating, or what we’re not eating; what we’re watching, or what we’re not watching.

Dave:
Aw, yes! The divine to-do list.

Miles: And, speaking just for myself, sometimes that to-don’t list can be even longer than the to-do list. There’s a certain sense of . . . moral superiority when we abstain from doing what we really, secretly, want to do.

Christian author, Kent Hughes, wrote: "A taste of righteousness can be easily perverted into an overweening sense of self-righteousness and judgmentalism."

And I hate to say it, but . . . well, I resemble that remark!

Dave: Oh, I hear you! It’s one of the most subtle ways Satan gets our eyes off the Saviour. And if we’re not looking at the Saviour, we’re not seeing the Father. And then the devil’s got us. If, by beholding we become changed, than it is imperative that we keep our eyes on the Saviour and His revelation of Yahuwah. Otherwise, if we’re just looking at ourselves, we only become more like ourselves.

Like Charles Spurgeon, the great, 19th century English preacher said: “The greatest enemy to human souls is the self-righteous spirit which makes men look to themselves for salvation."

Miles: We’ve got to keep our eyes on the Saviour! On his righteousness. That’s the only way any of us will ever make it through.

Dave:
Say that again.

Miles: We have to keep our eyes on Yahushua. It is only by His righteousness that any of us will make it through.

Dave: Yes, and that, right there, is probably the most important thing we’ve ever said on this show. It’s not our righteousness. We have none! It’s his righteousness that will get us through.

Look, the devil has temptations custom-designed for every mind. It’s not just the accumulation of inherited tendencies to sin. It’s also the cultivated tendencies to sin, which have gotten stronger with every time we’ve given in to temptation. The cultivated and inherited tendencies to sin have created within each one of us a unique mindset with specific weaknesses.

Satan has made a study of the human race. And he’s studied not just the race, but each individual. He knows what my weaknesses are; he knows what your weaknesses are, and he has a plan that will bring each one of us face-to-face with temptation in its most alluring form. It will be different for each one of us, but it will be very real. The only way any of us can get through is to keep our eyes on Yahushua. To ask for, and by faith accept his righteousness in place of our dirty rags.

Miles: It’s who you know. It’s that personal relationship with the Saviour. It’s his robe of righteousness, covering our filthy rags that is the only thing that will get any of us through.

I want to urge each one of our listeners: cling to the promises! Let the words of Scripture flow through your mind like a cleansing wave. You can receive the righteousness you need to be saved.

In fact, it’s the desire of the Saviour and the Father to gift each one of us with the righteousness of the son. They want to clothe us in Yahushua’s own righteousness that he obtained through living a sinless life on earth by continual surrender to the will of his Father.

That victory is ours! By faith! The Saviour’s perfect sinlessness, obtained through perfect surrender to the will of Yahuwah, can be ours through faith.

Dave: This isn’t something any of us can do for ourselves.

Miles: No way!

Dave:
It’s a gift. Yahuwah will cleanse and restore all who turn to Him in faith, believing that He will accept them because He has promised to do so. If we do that, He will say to us as He told Joshua in Zechariah 3: “See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes.”

And this is done only by the power and Spirit of Yahuwah. The very next chapter states: “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says Yahuwah of hosts.”

Salvation, by faith, is a free gift. Make the choice. Accept it today.

Miles: Like Elise O’Brien says every day: we’ve been given great and precious promises. Now, we just need to go and start claiming.

We hope you can join us again tomorrow, and until then, remember: Yahuwah loves you . . . and He is safe to trust!
