Program 86: Learn how to access divine power!
Learn the secrets to accessing divine power and you, too, can become more than conquerors in Christ.

Welcome to WLC Radio, a subsidiary of World’s Last Chance Ministries, an online ministry dedicated to learning how to live in constant readiness for the Savior's return.

For two thousand years, believers of every generation have longed to be the last generation. Contrary to popular belief, though, Christ did not give believers “signs of the times” to watch for. Instead, he repeatedly warned that his coming would take even the faithful by surprise. Yahushua urgently warned believers to be ready because, he said, “The Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” [Matthew 24:44]

Part 1: (Miles & Dave)

Miles Robey: Hello! Welcome to World’s Last Chance Radio, where we bring you truth-filled messages directly from the Bible. I’m your host, Miles Robey.

Dave Wright: And I’m Dave Wright. Thank you for tuning in!

Miles:
We’ve got a fantastic program planned for today. One I’m personally really excited about. Dave is going to be sharing with us a principle that is woven throughout Scripture—

Dave:
Genesis to Revelation!

Miles: –that will teach us precisely how to access divine power.

Dave: Yes, I’m really eager to talk about this today. As you said, it’s woven throughout Scripture, but I’ve never heard a sermon preached on it; I’ve never read a book or an article on it. And yet it is the key to accessing divine power which, of course, is vital to being an over-comer.

Miles: Sounds great. Let’s get started.

For those joining us for the first time, you’re going to hear in just a moment a word you may not have heard before. Here at WLC, we feel one of the keys to overcoming is found in the Scriptural command to “call upon the name of the Lord.” But you can’t “call” on the name of the Lord if you don’t know the name of the Lord.

Dave:
And, in the original Hebrew, it doesn’t actually say to call upon the name of the Lord.

Miles: Right. The original Hebrew uses the divine name. It says “call upon the name of Yahuwah”. Other places refer to Him by the shorter version, Yah. It’s only when the Scriptures were translated that the generic titles of lord and god were substituted for the holy names of the Father and the son.

The son’s name is similar to the Father’s and is “Yahushua” which means: “Yahuwah saves.” Calling on the name of Yahuwah is an important part of overcoming because the name itself is a verb-of-being. So, when used in combination with your need, it becomes a promise!

All right. Dave. The time is all yours. What can you tell us about accessing divine power?

Dave: Well, over the last weekend, it occurred to me that if people are to exercise faith in the promises, it’s important to understand the mechanics of how it works.

My youngest daughter is 14. She’s talented in a number of areas. She loves history and literature; she’s talented, quite talented, actually, with the violin. But she struggles at math.

Miles: It’s like your brain is hardwired for the arts and literature, or it’s hardwired for the maths and sciences. Never both.

Dave:
Well, certainly not in her, anyway! Or me, for that matter. Anyway, she was struggling with a homework assignment in algebra. My wife, who doesn’t like math either, sent her to me because I do enjoy math.

So, I’m trying to help my daughter learn this rule of algebra and I had this Dad moment. You know, it’s where you open your mouth and all of a sudden you hear your own parent speaking?

Miles: I’ve had a few of those moments myself!

Dave: Well, I found myself telling her: “You don’t need to understand it; you just need to memorize it!”

Miles: I remember being told the same thing. And, no offense, but that’s terrible advice.

Dave
: Oh, it is! I know it! So, hearing this … stupid advice coming out of my mouth, I had to take a step back, give myself a moment to think about it, and come up with a different explanation. One that made sense to her. Then, once she understood it, of course, she did just fine.

But it got me to thinking. There is a science to overcoming, but how many of us really know it? How many of us understand how it works?

Miles: Well, Peter kind of explains it, I thought. Give me just a second to find this text. It’s … here it is. 2 Peter chapter 1, verses 3 and 4. It says: “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

So, it’s faith in the promises. Right?

Dave: Absolutely. But it’s like my daughter and her algebra. It’s much easier to actually do it, once you understand how it works. Once we have a technical understanding of how faith in the promises actually works, it will be much easier to actually do it.

The key to understanding it is found in Isaiah 55. If any of you listening have your Bibles with you, you can follow along as we read.

Miles: Which verses?

Dave:
Well … let’s read it in context. Start at verse 6 and read through verse 11.

Miles: Okay. It says:

Seek ye Yahuwah while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto Yahuwah, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our Eloah, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith Yahuwah. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Dave:
This is the passage that explains how we are to access divine power and it’s said in the context of calling for the wicked to forsake their way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts. It’s in the context of inviting people to return to the worship of Yahuwah.

Then He says, “For”. He’s explaining. He’s saying, “In this manner. Just like the rain comes down and is the active agent that makes the plants grow and develop, providing food for everyone, so shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth. It shall not return unto Me void, or … negated. Canceled. But it—My word—shall accomplish what I want it to do, and it—My word—shall prosper (thrive and accomplish) in doing what I sent it to do.”

Miles: So, let me get this straight. What Isaiah 55 is saying is that Yah’s word itself contains the power to do what it says.

Dave: Exactly.

Miles: Wow!

Dave:
Quite the concept, isn’t it?

Miles: It really is!

Dave: The word of Yah itself contains the power to accomplish whatever that word says.

Miles: But how does that work? Precisely. How does that work?

Dave:
The answer to that is just as fascinating and it reveals one of the main reasons behind the trinity heresy.

Miles: Now, that’s interesting! Before you say more, let me just explain really quickly for our listeners: this idea of a triune godhead comes from ancient heathenism. It does not come from Scripture.

The Bible repeatedly states that Yahuwah is ONE.

Dave: Deuteronomy 6:4: “Hear, O Israel. Yahuwah our Eloah is One.”

Miles: Right. First John 5 where it talks about the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost “and these three are one,” [1 John 5:7] that was added a thousand years later!

So there is one original life source. That’s Yahuwah. Yahushua is His only begotten son. There is no disembodied third-person of the godhead. That came into Christianity officially at the Council of Nicea.

But you were saying that the way the word of Yah has the power to do what it says is one of the main reasons behind the trinity heresy. What do you mean by that? Say more.

Dave:
The Bible does talk about a Holy Spirit. Genesis 1, verse 2, says that the spirit of Elohim moved upon the face of the waters. When John baptized Yahushua, the spirit of Yah in the form of a dove came down and rested upon Him. So, definitely, there is a “holy spirit” spoken of in Scripture.

Miles: But it’s not some ghostly, disembodied third-person of the godhead.

Dave: No. When you look up the word “spirit” it simply means breath. The breath of Yah hovered over the waters. The breath of Yah was breathed down on the Saviour, taking the form of a dove.

The Holy Spirit is simply Yahuwah’s breath. What this tells us, is that the Almighty is so powerful, so omnipotent, that His very breath has the power to do what He says.

Miles: So that’s how He could create the universe out of nothing, just by speaking it into existence.

Dave:
Yes. Psalm 33 tells us, quote: “By the word of Yahuwah were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. … For He spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.” [Psalm 33:6 & 9]

The spoken word requires two things—

Miles: Vibrating vocal chords, for one thing!

Dave: Yes, working vocal chords. And the other thing is air. Breath. Without breath passing through those vocal chords, you cannot produce sound.

Yahuwah’s breath is holy, just as He is holy. His very breath contains the power to do what He says, so that when the world is dark and He wants some light, He doesn’t need to light a torch! All He has to do is say, “Light, be!”

Miles: And light was.

Dave:
Genesis 1, verse 2, reveals that before Yahuwah terra-formed the world, it was covered in water. So, He says, “Light, be!” and light was. Then what did He say?

Miles: Uh … let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters–

Dave: “And it was so.” What did He say next?

Miles: Uh—“Let the dry land appear.” [Gen. 1:9]

Dave: “And it was so.” Are you seeing the pattern here? Yah speaks, and it is so. What did not exist before, now does because of His word.

You find this throughout Scripture, not just Creation week:

  • The children of Israel need to escape across the Red Sea. Yah tells Moses to hold his rod over the waters and they part. Why? Was there anything “magical” about Moses’ rod?

Miles: No.

Dave: Of course not! It was simply to show Moses’ faith in Yah. It was always Yah’s word that performed any miraculous event. He told the waters to part when Moses held out his rod and they did.

  • They run out of food, He sends them manna.
  • They run out of water, He sends them pure, fresh water.

In everything that happened, Yahuwah was trying to inspire their faith in His word.

Probably the most beautiful place this principle is illustrated, though, is in the creation of Adam. Would you read Genesis 2 verse 7, please?

Miles: All right … uh, it says: “And Yahuwah Eloah formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

Dave:
Maybe the Father said His own name. Maybe He said, “Be!” when He declared Adam into existence. We don’t know. But what we do know is that once the breath of life had been breathed into his nostrils, that great, big mud sculpture became a living, breathing, sentient being.

Miles: Simply because He spoke and it was so. He commanded and it stood fast.

Dave: The point we need to remember is that the Holy Spirit, literally Yahuwah’s breath, contains the ex nihilo power that called the universe into existence.

Miles: Okay. I’m going to stop you right there. We’re going to take a really short break and when we return, I’d like to talk about how we take this knowledge and apply it to our spiritual lives.

We’ll be right back!

At World’s Last Chance, we understand that following truth can exact a very high price.

Yahushua said that gaining the kingdom of Heaven was like a merchantman who gave up all that he had in order to obtain a pearl of great price. In other words, the cost of following truth “no matter what the cost” is . . . everything.

This may sound courageous in theory, but it can be scary when your job—and your ability to earn a living, or get an education—is at risk.

If you find yourself in a difficult situation at work or school, World’s Last Chance can help. On our website, we have articles that can teach you the skills needed for negotiating accommodation in both work and school.

We also provide examples of letters that can be used when writing to employers or school administrators.

Let us help you get accommodation for time off work or school to worship Yah.

* * *Part 2: (Miles & Dave)

Miles: And we’re back! If you’re just tuning in, today we’ve been talking about Isaiah 55 where Scripture reveals that the very word of Yah contains the power to do what it says.

This is honestly mind-blowing. Why have I never heard a sermon on this? This is huge! This is the secret to accessing infinite, divine power!

Dave:
It is! It’s exciting!

Miles: So. Now with this understanding, how do we take this knowledge and apply it to our daily lives?

Dave: Well, let’s start with the definition of faith. Faith is simply the agreement of the mind that what another person is saying is true based on nothing more than who that person is. It doesn’t require any other proof. You just trust that the person making the statement is telling the truth, either because she is knowledgeable on that subject, or because you trust the character of the person. You know he’ll never lie to you.

So now give me some absolutes about the character of Yah. Tell me about Him.

Miles: Well, 1 John 4:16 tells us that Yah is love.

Dave:
And as someone who loves you, you can trust that He wants what is best for you. What else?

Miles: He doesn’t lie.

Dave: More than that, He can not lie.

Miles: Oh, right! We talk all the time about how Yah cannot lie as though it’s a character attribute, but it’s also the reality of His existence. If He says something is so, then it suddenly is so, even if it wasn’t before He said it!

Dave:
That’s right. When your words contain creative power, there is simply no possible way you can lie, because your words themselves contain the power to create the reality you have spoken.

Now, I’d like you to turn over to Hebrews, chapter 11, and read verse 1. Here, the writer of Hebrews is giving us another insight into how we are to combine faith with the creative power of Yah to claim the promises. You have it? Go ahead and read it.

Miles: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Dave: The point that he is trying to make here is that when your mind agrees to the reality described in one of Yah’s promises, your own reality is changed to reflect that reality created by the word of Yah.

It all gets back to the word of Yah itself containing the power to do what it says.

Miles: Okaaaay. Uh, honestly, this sounds a bit New Age/woo-woo …

Do you have any examples from the Bible where it worked this way?

Dave:
Even better. I’ve got Yahushua’s own words explaining this. Let’s take a look at Matthew, chapter 9, verses 27 to 30. Could you read that for us please?

Miles:

When Yahushua departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou son of David, have mercy on us. And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Yahushua saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened.

Dave: Here, Yahushua took the time to explain that their reality would be shaped by their faith. Did they have the faith to claim the power contained in the promise?

Miles: So what you’re saying is, faith is the hand that grasps the power already contained in the promise.

Dave:
Yes. Divine power is not contained in a person’s faith. Faith isn’t some magical incantation. It is, as you said, the hand that grabs hold of the power that is already contained in the word of Yah.

Another excellent example of this is found in the story of the centurion. Let’s take a look at this next. Just turn back one chapter to Matthew, chapter 8. Read verses 5 to 10.

Miles:

And when Yahushua was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Yahushua saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Yahushua heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

Dave: All right. Let’s take a look at what happens in this story. The Saviour comes into Capernaum—a place where some of Yahushua’s greatest miracles were preformed. And here’s this centurion. A Roman. A Roman centurion. Obviously, he’s heard about the Saviour before and he has faith that Yahushua can help him with his problem.

He goes, explains that his servant is ill, and asks Yahushua to heal the man.

Yahushua, used to dealing with those who had very little faith responds … how?

Miles: Uh … he says: “I will come and heal him.”

Dave:
Right! But the centurion is aghast. He has such a high opinion of the Saviour, he doesn’t feel worthy to have Yahushua come into his home. So, instead, he tells him: “Oh, no! That’s OK. You don’t have to do that. Just say it! Just say the word and my servant will be healed.”

See, the centurion recognized Yahushua’s authority. He understood that Yah Himself was speaking through Yahushua and that the Father empowered the words of the son to do what he said.

That’s why the centurion then goes on to say: “Look. I understand you’ve got authority. I get it, because I’ve got authority, too. I tell this guy to do this thing, and he does. I tell someone else to go do that, and he obeys. So, just say it! That’s all that’s needed.”

Miles: He understood that Yahushua’s words, speaking for Yah, contained the power to do what he said.

Dave: Exactly. And that, Yahushua said, is faith.

This is how we are to overcome in the struggle against sin. Our faith grasps that Yahuwah, who loves us and cannot lie, has infused His words with the power to do what He says. So then, when we claim one of Yah’s promises, it is fulfilled. It changes reality to match the promise.

And when we do this, great things will start to happen!

Miles: That’s beautiful. A bit ago, we read from Hebrews 11, verse 1, but I want to turn there again for just a moment.

Dave:
The whole chapter is good.

Miles: Oh, it is. And it closes with a description of what happens when your faith grasps the power contained in the promises. It’s thrilling. Give me just a minute to read it. Again, this is taken from Hebrews 11, verses 32 to 38. It says, quote:

And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:

Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions. Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

Unquote. So, what this whole long list is saying, is that the power contained in the very word of Yah Himself was sufficient to do all these things. Yes, it raised people from the dead. Yes, it healed people. But even more than that, it gave them supernatural strength to stay faithful through everything the devil threw at them.

Dave: You can’t stay faithful to Yah through torture in your own strength. You have to have divine strength to remain faithful under torture. And that strength is available in the promises.

Miles: Yahuwah has provided a promise to meet every need and every single emergency.

Dave:
But faith has a role to play. The power contained in the promises is accessed only through faith. Not emotion. Your feelings don’t play into this at all. In fact, the very time to exercise faith is when your emotions are screaming doubt at you.

Miles: That’s true. We like to think we’re exercising faith when we’re filled with hope, but that’s not really faith. Faith is simply taking Yah at His word because you trust Him.

Dave: True faith is never blind. We talk about “blind faith,” but it’s really not. Instead, true faith is based on your personal acquaintance with the Creator. You have faith because you know from your own experience that this Being of unlimited power holds only infinite love in His heart for you.

Divine power to overcome is simply awaiting your demand upon it, folks! So, don’t wait! Claim it! By faith, claim any promise given! When you do this, you can be assured that the promise has already been fulfilled at that very moment!

Miles: Because the divine power necessary to fulfill that particular promise is already contained in the words themselves.

Dave:
That’s right. That is how Yah works. His breath itself is the active agent that accomplishes His will.

We’ve seen how that worked at Creation, but you’ll find this concept throughout Scripture. Turn over to John chapter 20. This is describing Yahushua’s reunion with his disciples after his resurrection. There’s something he did that we typically gloss over when reading this chapter because we don’t understand it. But I want to take a look at it with this new understanding that the spirit of Yah, the Holy Spirit, or the Holy Ghost, is the power-packed divine breath.

Read verses 21 and 22.

Miles: “Then said Yahushua to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost.”

Dave: Yahushua breathed on them the divine breath. He did this to empower them to take the gospel to the world. What does the next verse say?

Miles: “Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.”

Dave:
Yah’s breath, through His son, strengthened the weak, fearful disciples to become the courageous-unto-death apostles that took the gospel message to the world. His breath, breathed into a big mud pie, transformed that dirt into Adam.

And what we have to remember and act upon is the fact that our Creator is also our re-Creator. This is what our faith must grasp hold of when we claim the promises.

Miles: I like that. Our Creator is also our re-Creator. There are 360 names of Yah given in Scripture. These have been lost in translation, but they appear in the original Hebrew. They form a perfect wall of protection around the believer.

We don’t have time to get into it today, but we’ll have a program on this in the near future. These names of Yah are themselves promises! So yeah, it makes sense that the one who created us in the first place has the power to re-create us as needed.

Dave: And the power is right there, in the words of the promises themselves, just awaiting our demand upon it. We don’t need to fear the future, folks. We don’t even need to fear whether or not we’ll be lost. Yahuwah has the power to save even the most degraded sinner. He’s got the power to purify even the most corrupted mind.

And He embedded that power within the words of Scripture itself. The word of Yah has the power to do what it says. So claim it! Put it to work for you. He wants you to … because He loves you.

Miles: Stay tuned, folks. When we return, we’ll be answering your questions sent in to our Daily Mailbag.

Predestination is a doctrine a lot of people find very comforting. After all, who wouldn’t like to believe that you’re saved no matter what you may do. It takes the choice (and thus the responsibility for choosing) right out of our hands!

But is it Scriptural? And if it’s not, why not? What does Scripture have to say?

* * *Daily Mailbag (Miles & Dave)

Miles: Time for our Daily Mailbag! Sole Ramirez from … someplace in Nicaragua has a question for us. She writes: “I was raised a Catholic but the more I study the Bible, the more questions I have regarding some of what I was taught. Could you please tell me what the Bible says about purgatory?”

Dave: For those unacquainted with this belief, let’s first define what is meant by purgatory. Roman Catholics teach that purgatory is a transitional place. The word itself means, “a cleansing place.”

There are some Scripture passages that are used to support the idea of purgatory, but when the subject is studied in context, it quickly becomes clear that the Bible does not actually teach the existence of purgatory.

Miles: Where did the idea come from, than?

Dave: Well, Catholics believe in an ever-burning hell. They teach that if a person is lost, he or she will burn for all eternity. This created something of a problem.

Miles: Well, yeah. Even to our fallen human minds, that seems a bit excessive.

Dave:
What do you do if a person isn’t quite good enough to be saved, but isn’t bad enough to burn for all eternity? That’s where the idea of purgatory comes from. It’s an intermediary place so that if a basically “good” person dies with sins they didn’t have a chance to confess to the priest or for which they haven’t yet paid penance, Catholic doctrine is that they go to purgatory and can then be cleansed and be saved.

Miles: So, in other words, they become their own Saviour, making propitiation for their sins.

Dave: Yes. And that is the problem with this doctrine. In Acts 4, Peter and John were dragged before the Sanhedrin. Peter made a bold defense of the Saviour, saying in verses 11 and 12, quote: “This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

Our salvation comes from Yahushua. Period. Full stop. We do not obtain it through mortification of the flesh.

Would you read John 3:18 for us? We all know John 3:16: “For Yah so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Miles: I like John 3:17, too: “For Yah sent not His son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.”

Dave:
So, we’re saved by the blood of Yahushua alone. Now read John 3:18.

Miles: “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten son of Yah.”

Dave: This verse contradicts the entire concept of purgatory. Our salvation is based on what Yahushua has done for us. We accept and believe or we don’t. It’s our choice. But it is not based on burning for a bit in the fires of purgatory in order to gain entrance into Yah’s kingdom in the earth made new.

Skip ahead two chapters now and read John 5:24. This also proves that salvation comes directly through Yahushua, not something we can earn.

Miles: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

Dave:
Now, turn to 2 Corinthians 5:21. Go ahead and read it once you’ve got it.

Miles: “For Ge hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of Yah in him.”

Dave: Let’s read one more passage: Romans 4, verses 4 and 5. Here, Paul is explaining the utter futility of trying to work your way to salvation through self-improvement.

Miles: “Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.”

Dave: Yahushua’s righteousness is a free gift, given to all who believe and claim it by faith. It is not applied to you, only after you’ve burned in purgatory for five years because you were having a lustful thought when your car was T-boned by a drunk driver. That leaves your salvation dependent upon your state of mind in the instant of your death, rather than on the blood of Yahushua.

The blood of Yahushua offers us more reassurance than that!

Miles: You know, I looked into this doctrine a few years ago. I was curious to know what the early Church taught.

Dave: What did you find?

Miles: There’s no record in the early Church that this belief was held or even known. There wasn’t a single early Church father that wrote about it. And you’d think there would be at least one!

Dave: You’d think.

Miles: But there wasn’t.

Dave: That’s interesting. Well, we can be sure of three things:

  1. Salvation is only in the name of Yahushua our Saviour as stated in Acts 4:12.
  2. Acts 16 tells us that there is no other way a person can be saved but through Yahushua. And,
  3. As Paul explained in Romans 10, salvation means that we believe the Saviour lived a sinless life, died in our stead, and due to having lived a sinless life, was raised from the dead to sit on the right hand of the Father.

This is where our assurance of salvation lies.

You don’t have to fear that your beloved parent or precious child is suffering in purgatory in order to get “good enough” to be saved.

In closing, let’s take a look at Romans, chapter 1. Read verses 16 and 17.

Miles: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of Yah unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of Yahuwah revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”

Dave:
Forgiveness of sin, like eternal life, is a gift. It is not something that can ever be earned through any amount of suffering. Romans 6:23 tells us that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of Yah is eternal life. If you obtain eternal life through suffering, it’s not a gift. It’s something you deserve because you’ve earned it. This is the foundational reason why the doctrine of purgatory is wrong.

Salvation is a gift. It always has been and always will be. It’s a gift of divine grace coming from the Father’s heart of infinite love.

* * *Daily Promise

This is Elise O’Brien with your daily promise from Yah’s Word.

In 1989, an earthquake registering 8.2 on the Richter scale devastated Armenia. In less than four minutes, over 30,000 people lost their lives. Unless you’ve lived through a similar experience, it’s difficult to grasp the sheer magnitude of anguish and suffering. People’s worlds are crushed. The lives of any survivors will never again be the same.

It is also from such tragedies that stories of true heroism arise. I want to tell you about one hero during that dreadful time. This man was a father. At the time of the earthquake, his son was at school. As soon as the ground quit shaking enough for him to move, he rushed to his son’s school. There, where the school had been, was nothing but an immense heap of rubble.

I cannot even begin to imagine what must have gone through his mind. Surely shock and horror would have been paramount. Other parents were there, walking around in a daze, calling out their children’s names. But this father reacted differently. The pile of rubble only spurred him into action. He rushed to the back corner of the building where his son’s classroom had been and began to dig.

You’ve got to ask yourself, “Why?” What real hope did he have? What were the chances that his son had somehow miraculously escaped being killed?

What drove this man on was a promise. He had promised his boy he would always be there for him. This was what compelled his hope and gave strength to his body.

As he dug, well-meaning bystanders tried to pull him away.

“It’s too late!” they said. “They’re all dead. You can’t help. Just go home. There’s nothing you can do.”

Even the firemen tried to pull him away, explaining, “There are explosions and fires everywhere. It’s too dangerous. Go home.”

An understanding police officer tried to get him to see reason. He said, “I understand that you’re angry. You’re upset. But it’s over. Go home.”

But the father had made a promise and he was going to keep it. The love this man had for his son kept him digging for eight hours. Then, 12 hours. Sixteen hours … twenty-four … thirty-six hours. Then, in the 38th hour, the father pulled back a boulder and heard his son’s voice, calling for help.

“Armand!” he screamed.

“Dad?! Is that you? I told them! I told the other kids that if you were still alive, you’d come find us. You promised you’d always be there for me and you did it, Dad!”

A resolute father, determined to keep his promise to his beloved son; a stone rolled away to reveal life and freedom. This story always reminds me of events that took place early one morning nearly 2,000 years ago. Our Heavenly Father rolled away a much more significant stone, and kept an even greater promise. When He rolled away that stone from the sepulcher and raised His beloved son back to life, He brought to every one who believes, eternal life and true freedom in Christ!

And the good news is He’s still in the business of rolling away stones!

Now, I don’t know what stones are in your life. I don’t know what’s keeping you from the happiness and fulfillment you desire. But I do know the Father is looking for you right now. He’s sifting through all the rubble and ruin of lives not lived for Him. However big or small the stones and boulders in your life may be, He is willing and capable of rolling them away and giving you new life in Him.

Yahuwah keeps His promises, just as He kept His promise to His own son when He rolled away a stone early one morning 2,000 years ago.

Acts 13, verses 37 to 38 says: “He whom Yah raised up saw no corruption. Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins.”

We’ve been given great and precious promises. Go, and start claiming!

* * *Part 3: (Miles & Dave)

Miles: You know, as a Christian, you’re brought up being taught that Yahuwah is all-powerful. You’re taught that you can’t save yourself. And that’s all true.

But it’s easy to, almost without realizing it, slip into this mindset that our salvation is based on our faith. It’s based on our repentance. It’s based on us doing some part of it.

Dave:
Well, Yahuwah will never force the human will. We do have to actively choose Him, but beyond that, you’re right. It’s His strength, His recreative abilities exercised on our behalf. It’s His grace and love that saves sinners.

Miles: I appreciate today’s discussion, though, because you’re right: understanding the mechanics of how faith works—that it is simply the hand that lays hold of the power that is already embedded in the word of Yah—that understanding reinforces that it is all Yah. It truly is nothing of us.

Dave: If you’ve still got your Bible there, turn over to Ephesians 2, and read verses 8 to 10.

This really states it clearly.

Miles: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of Yah: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Yahushua unto good works, which Yahuwah hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

Dave: There can never be any doubt: salvation is a free gift and Yahuwah has done absolutely everything to save as many people as possible. He knows how weak sinners are, so He has given us His word so that, by faith, we can access the divine power that called the universe into existence.

We find this throughout Scripture. You remember the story of the woman caught in adultery?

Miles: Yeah. The Pharisees were using it as an opportunity to trick Yahushua. If he said she should be forgiven, they could denounce him to the people as contradicting the law of Moses; but if he said she should be stoned, they could accuse him to the Romans of taking the law into his own hands. I’ve always loved how Yahushua skated around that! [Chuckles] He simply said, “Let he that is without sin among you cast the first stone.”

Dave:
And then he stooped and wrote in the dust, presumably all the sins of which the Pharisees were guilty.

Miles laughs: And they scattered like rabbits!

Dave: Would you read John 8, verses 10 and 11? I want to take a look at the conversation between the woman and the Saviour. This passage takes on huge significance when you learn that divine power is contained in the divine word.

Miles:

When Yahushua had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Yahushua said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Dave: “Neither do I condemn you.” That, right there, is huge! The Saviour does not condemn us! But it is the next phrase that is supernaturally empowering: “Go, and sin no more.” The divine power to actually do that is contained in those very words!

Do we need to be perfect? Yes, but the power to do that is gifted to us. It’s not something we can conjure up in ourselves. Ever!

When Yahushua returns, Yah’s people won’t be perfect. At least, not until they’re gifted with a higher nature. But it has been in their heart to obey the law of Yah. They have felt sorrow for sin. They’ve wanted to perfectly reflect the divine image even though, in their human weakness, they have made mistakes and stumbled into sin. At his return, when the dead are raised incorruptible, the living righteous are transformed and given a higher nature.

So even the holiness and righteousness of the saints are a gift of divine grace. Our part is just to choose to lay hold on the power contained in the promises.

Miles: This is really good to know because no one is going to make it through in their own strength.

Dave: No, they won’t. But Yahuwah doesn’t expect us to! That is why He has given us His word to claim by faith!

So, if you have no food and no way of getting more you can claim the promise of Isaiah 33:16.

Miles: “He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.”

Dave:
If you are in danger for standing for the word of Yah, if your personal safety or the safety of your loved ones hinges upon your caving in, you can claim the promise of Isaiah 54:17.

Miles: I don’t know that one. Let me look it up … aw! “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of Yahuwah, and their righteousness is of me, saith Yahuwah.”

Dave:
Interestingly enough, this promise is just a few verses before the passage that explains the word of Yah contains the power to do what it says. So don’t be afraid, friends! Don’t despair that you seem to sin and keep on sinning. Claim the power contained in the promises of Yah! That’s what it’s there for. He wants each one of us to choose to take Him at His word.

He knows that, in our own strength and power, we cannot get ourselves ready. We can’t repent enough. But, if we will take Him at His word and claim the promises He will get us ready.

Miles: Because He has promised to and Yahuwah never lies.
