Program 87: The Most Powerful Promise in the Universe!

The Creator’s personal name is a verb of being. When said in combination with your need, it becomes the most powerful promise in the universe!

Welcome to WLC Radio, a subsidiary of World’s Last Chance Ministries, an online ministry dedicated to learning how to live in constant readiness for the Savior's return.

For two thousand years, believers of every generation have longed to be the last generation. Contrary to popular belief, though, Christ did not give believers “signs of the times” to watch for. Instead, he repeatedly warned that his coming would take even the faithful by surprise. Yahushua urgently warned believers to be ready because, he said, “The Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” [Matthew 24:44]

Part 1: (Miles & Dave)

Miles Robey: Hello! Welcome to World’s Last Chance Radio. I’m your host, Miles Robey. Joining me is Dave Wright.

Dave Wright:
Hello there! Thanks for tuning in. I’m really excited about the program we’ve planned for you today.

Miles:
I am, too. If you’ve joined us before, you know that we always start out with a quick word of explanation for anyone joining us for the first time. At WLC, we take literally the Bible’s command to “Call upon the name of the Lord.”

But it doesn’t actually say “the Lord” in the original Hebrew. It uses the personal name of the Creator, which has been lost in translation.

Dave:
It hasn’t just been lost. It’s been deliberately covered up! There is power in calling upon the name of the Father, but how can you do that if the only words you’ve ever heard applied to the Creator are the generic titles of “lord” or “god”?

Miles: You can’t.

The actual name of the Creator is Yahuwah, or Yah. This is the name we are to call upon. The name of the son is similar. It’s Yahushua and means “Yahuwah saves.”

Now, what’s really exciting—

Dave: Nope! I want to say it.

Miles laughs: In case you can’t tell, we’re both excited about today’s program.

Dave:
We are. It’s a topic we’ve touched on very lightly in past programs, but today we’re going to devote the entire program to revealing the promise that is hidden in the divine name.

Miles: I’ll tell you, learning about this promise has totally revolutionized my spiritual walk. And the amazing thing is, this information has been hiding in plain sight! It’s available to anyone who’s willing to dig. It’s why Scripture repeatedly urges us to call upon the name of Yahuwah—

Dave: –and why Satan has gone to such lengths to obscure the divine name. He’s hidden it under meaningless titles. Titles that refer to heathen deities!

Miles: Yeah, you’re not going to have the faith to call on His name if you don’t even know His name! It becomes just a rhetorical phrase: “Call upon the name of the Lord.” It has no meaning if you don’t know His name.

Dave:
The reason we’re to call upon the name of Yah, and the whole reason the devil has covered it up with titles, is that the name of Yahuwah itself contains the most powerful promise in the universe. Once you know of this promise and learn how to claim it, you’ll start gaining victories in your spiritual life you never thought possible!

Paul told the Ephesians that it was necessary for them to “put on the whole armor of Yah” in order to gain victories. Let’s take a look at that passage. Ephesians 6, verses 11 to 13.

Miles: I’ve got that here. It says:

Put on the whole armour of Yah, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of Yah, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Dave: An integral part of putting on the whole armor of Yah is understanding the all-powerful promise hidden in the divine name. Yahuwah’s name is unusual in that it’s a verb-of-being. Miles? For listeners—like me—who hated grammar, could you remind everyone what verbs-of-being are? You’re our resident logophile.

Miles: I do love words!

Well, verbs-of-being are words that don’t show action. Instead, they indicate a state of being.

Dave:
For example?

Miles: Well, you’ve got your action verbs: swim, drive, speak, drink, et cetera. Your verbs-of-being, on the other hand, describe whether someone is happy, sad, strong, weak, sick, well, holy, wicked, et cetera.

The verbs-of-being are: is, am, are, was, were, be, being, and been. Then, of course, there’s: will be, shall have been, and so forth.

Dave: Using a verb of being as a name sounds odd to our ears. No one names their baby boy “Is” or their little girl “Was”! But it’s perfect for Yahuwah. The fact that His name is a verb-of-being communicates an important message: He is the only one who Is, who Was, and who Is To Come. He’s self-existent, meaning He did not get life from some other source. He is—Himself—the source of all life, including His own.

Miles: It makes sense that the only way to express the qualities of infinity is to use a verb-of-being as His name.

He is. He was. And He shall be forever more.

Dave: We learn about Yahuwah’s name in Exodus 3. Let’s turn there and read it.

This is a really interesting passage. The Creator’s personal name is not given in Genesis 1.

Miles: “In the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth”?

Dave: “God” isn’t a substitute for the divine name. Instead, it’s the English equivalent of one of several Hebrew titles. El, eloah, and elohim are used repeatedly throughout the Old Testament and refer to the Father. “Elohim” is what was used throughout Genesis 1: “In the beginning, Elohim created the Heavens and the earth.”

It’s later, in Exodus 3, that we learn the depth of meaning in the Father’s personal name. This is the story of the burning bush. Yah is trying to inspire Moses to return to Egypt to deliver the Israelites. Moses is … shall we say, hesitant.

Miles: Understandably! He did kill an Egyptian overseer, after all!

Dave: Right. Now, during their years of enslavement in Egypt, the Children of Israel had lost a lot of knowledge of the truth. They’d become corrupted by the heathenism they saw on a daily basis. So Moses asks a very good question.

Let’s read it. Verses 13 to 15. Go ahead.

Miles:

Then Moses said to Eloah, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The Eloah of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?”

And Eloah said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” Moreover Eloah said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The Yahuwah Eloah of your fathers, the Eloah of Abraham, the Eloah of Isaac, and the Eloah of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’

Dave: Moses knew the Israelites would be afraid. They had reason to be! Before they’d be willing to rebel, they would want reassurance. That reassurance is found within the divine name.

Yahuwah is ever-present, He’s all-knowing, and He’s all-powerful. The only way to express these qualities of infinity that are integral to His nature is to use a verb of being and call Himself "AM." He could just as easily have called Himself Is, or Was, or Shall Be.

Miles: I really like that. All verbs of being are correct and true when applied to the source of all life.

Just for clarification, though, was this the first time the Father revealed His name? You said it wasn’t used in Genesis 1. Was this the first time He gave His personal name?

Dave: No. You can find some references to the Father by His personal name in Genesis. What is significant about Exodus 3, however, is that it is here Yahuwah explained His name.

Miles: What do you mean?

Dave:
Well, before repeating the name that Moses already knew, Yahuwah explained His name by using the same verb of being in a different form – a form that revealed the power within His name!

The phrase that appears in our Bibles as I AM THAT I AM comes from the Hebrew word: Hâyâh. It means to be. When Moses asked, "Who shall I say sent me?" the answer was BE! BE!

Miles: There’s power in that name, folks!

I was surprised to learn that an ancient war cry in Korea was, “Hayah!” And even now, people who study martial arts are taught that yelling “hiyah” will increase the physical power of their kicks or punches.

Dave: People used to know this. Anciently, Yahuwah’s prophets clearly understood the power of the divine name. In Genesis 12:2, Yahuwah told Abram, quote: “I will bless thee and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.”

I’ve got the New Strong’s Expanded Dictionary of Bible Words here. There’s an interesting passage under the definition of this word I’d like you to read for us.

Miles: Here?

Dave: Yeah. Right there. Go ahead.

Miles:

Abram was already blessed, so [Yahuwah’s] pronouncement conferred upon him a future blessedness. The use of hayah in such passages declares the actual release of power, so that the accomplishment is assured —Abram will be blessed because [Yahuwah] has ordained it.

The prophets used hayah to project [Yah’s] intervention in the future. By using this verb, they emphasized … the underlying divine force that will affect them … When covenants were made between two partners, the formulas usually included hayah.

One of the most debated uses of hayah occurs in Exodus 3:14 where [Yah] tells Moses His name. He says: I AM (Hayah) THAT I AM (Hayah).

Since the divine name, Jehovah, or Yahweh, was well known long before … this revelation seems to emphasize that the God [Eloah] who made the covenant, was the God that kept that covenant. So, Exodus 3:14 is more than a simple statement of identity: “I AM THAT I AM;” it is a declaration of divine control of all things.

Dave:
Hayah is a very powerful word. And this is why it is, itself, the strongest promise in the universe. You grasp this concept, and your life will be transformed.

This word, hayah, the root verb-of-being from which the divine name is drawn, is the very same word that called the universe into existence.

Miles: I love this! Let me tell them about this part.

When Dave says that Hayah–the divine name, really–is the same word that called the universe into existence, he means that literally. In Psalm 33, King David explained how the world was created. Verses 8 and 9 say, quote: “Let all the earth fear Yahuwah: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.” And what He spoke, over, and over, and over again, was His name.

Dave: That’s right. Let’s turn to Genesis 1. Read verse 3, would you please?

Miles: “Then Elohim said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.”

Dave:
This is kind of wordy. It’s how it is grammatically expressed in English.

A more direct translation, though, is much simpler and clearer. It was simply:

Light … BE!

Light was.

Dry ground … BE!

Dry ground was.

Plants … BE!

Plants were.

Miles: I just love this! He was saying His name, over, and over, and over again. Everything that exists came into being through divine power communicated via the divine name.

Dave: We recently had a program on another powerful Scriptural principle, and that is that the word of Yah itself contains the power to do what it says. If you missed that program, I’d really urge you to look for it on our website and take the time to listen to it. It’s called: “Learn how to access divine power.” You can listen to it on YouTube, too. But basically Scripture tells us that Yah’s creative power is contained, literally, in His very words!

Miles: Hold on a moment, Dave. This is an important point. Let’s not rush past it too quickly. I’ve turned to the passage. Let me read it. It’s from Isaiah 55, verses 8 to 11. It says:

For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, saith Yahuwah. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.

For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:

So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it [My word] shall not return unto Me void, but it [My word] shall accomplish that which I please, and it [My word] shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Unquote. This is a powerful, incredibly powerful, concept. It says that the word of Yah itself contains the supernatural, divine power to do what the word says.

We’re going to take a quick break and when we return, I want to bring it all together. The knowledge that the word of Yah contains the power to do what it says, combined with the divine name is what makes the most powerful promise in the entire universe.

We’ll be right back.

* * *Part 2: (Miles & Dave)

Miles: Okay, we were just saying that the word of Yah itself contains the power to do what it says. Could you explain for everyone how we take that knowledge and combine it with Yah’s name to claim the promise of His name?

Dave:
The divine name, as we’ve seen, is a verb-of-being. When you know that the word of Yah contains the power to do what it says, then His name, BE, said in combination with your need, becomes a promise that will be fulfilled when you claim it by faith.

Miles: Wow. Say that again.

Dave: The divine name, combined with your need, is itself a self-fulfilling promise. So, what do you need? Are you sick? Are you in need? Do you need strength or comfort? Do you need courage? Forgiveness? Cleansing?

His word to you is:

Be healed.

Be provided for.

Be strong.

Be comforted.

Be courageous.

Be forgiven.

Be cleansed.

Be re-created into the divine image.

Miles: This is so powerful. Years ago, I read a book by the late, great Dr. Leslie Hardinge. It was about the names of Yahuwah recorded in Scripture. He found a lot of names for Yah. They’re compound names: names that combine the verb of being with a description of Yah or an attribute of His character.

There are actually 360 of these compound names in the Bible. That itself I find really cool because there are exactly 360 degrees in a circle.

In other words, the names of Yahuwah become this impenetrable wall surrounding the believer. We are protected from any attacks of the enemy when we learn the power of Yahuwah’s name, and the power of His word.

Dave:
That’s beautiful. This is what it means to call upon the name of Yahuwah. It’s how we are to overcome in the battle against sin. Literally anything you need for life, health, happiness, and help in overcoming cultivated and inherited tendencies to evil, is contained in the promise of the divine name.

Miles: Another point these facts emphasize is the fact that Yahuwah cannot lie. In Titus 1, verse 2, Paul opens his letter to Titus by referring to the, quote, “hope of eternal life which Yah, who cannot lie, promised before time began.” Unquote.

Now, I don’t know about you, but before I learned that Yah’s word itself contains the power to do what it says, I always just assumed that Yahuwah cannot lie because that’s His nature. He’s holy. He’s not going to deceive anyone.

But once you realize that Yahuwah’s very words are self-fulfilling, you realize that, literally, He cannot lie!

Dave: Right! Say we’re here in the recording studio and it’s dark. I can’t see a thing. If I say, “It’s light,” I’d be lying. In order to get light I have to perform some action. I have to flip a light switch, or light a candle.

Not Yah! If it’s dark and He announces, “It’s light,” it is light just as soon as He says it is! It’s that simple.

Miles: I love it. That’s great.

Dave:
When you look up the name “Yahuwah” in Strong’s Bible Dictionary, it says that the promise of power contained within the divine name "became reality through Moses, to whom Yahuwah explained that He was not only the '[Elohim] who exists' but the '[Elohim] who effects His will.’”

Miles: In our last segment, you had me read some from Strong’s dictionary on the definition of Hayah. There’s one line in there that is so clear, I want to just read it again. It says, quote:

"The use of Hâyâh in such passages declares the actual release of power, so that the accomplishment is assured."

Dave: That’s exciting! We’ve got to start making calling on the name of Yahuwah a part of our daily lives. He wants us to. That’s why Scripture keeps telling us to call on His name. He knows that’s where the power lies.

Miles: And, not only that, it also promises to answer when we do! Psalm 50 verse 15 says: “Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.”

Dave:
The promise of power contained in the divine name is still there for any of us to claim. Yahuwah is the Elohim Who Was, and Who Is, and Who Is to come. He doesn’t change!

Miles: Malachi 3 verse 6: I am Yahuwah. I change not!”

Dave: Exactly. Our Creator, as the source of all life, has given Himself a name that is an assurance that He will BE everything we need.

Psalm 33 verse 6 says: “By the word of Yahuwah were the heavens made,
And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.”

Okay. Right in that verse you have a verb-of-being: By the word of Yahuwah … were (that’s a past tense verb-of-being), by the word of Yahuwah were the heavens made. This is what Isaiah 55 is talking about when it says that Yah’s very words contain self-fulfilling power.

It’s important we grasp this, because while this immense power is available to anyone—anyone can call upon the name of Yahuwah—we also need to exercise faith.

Miles: Yep. Hebrews 11 verse 6 is applicable here. It says: “Without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to Yah must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.”

Dave: Faith is simply taking Yahuwah at His word. It is the agreement of the mind that what He has said is true because of who He is. That’s it. You don’t need any other evidence.

Miles: It’s not feelings. I think a lot of people stumble over that.

Dave: No. Faith isn’t feelings. Faith is simply the acceptance of the mind that what Yahuwah has promised, He will do because of the power He has at His command, without needing to see or feel any additional proof that He will keep His promise.

Miles: You believe Him because you trust Him, and you trust Him because you know Him.

Dave:
Exactly. It’s just like with kids. A child that’s raised in a safe environment where Mummy always meets his needs is going to have complete and utter faith that Mummy will give him a drink of water when he asks for one.

When she tells him something, he believes her because he trusts her.

Miles: He trusts her because of who she is: she’s his mum. She has the power and the authority to give him what he needs.

Dave: And, he trusts her because her past actions have proven that she will always help when he asks for it.

Miles: That’s a really beautiful analogy of how we’re to trust our heavenly Father. It’s sad but true that kids tend to have more faith in the word of their earthly parents than adults do in the word of their heavenly Father.

Dave: I think this was the point Yahushua was making when He said, "Unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven." [Matthew 18:3]

A child who’s struggling to carry something that’s too heavy for her, asks her father for help in perfect confidence that he, in his superior strength, will help her lift and carry it.

All right. That’s what the difficulties of daily life are meant to do for us. They’re to lead us to call upon our heavenly Father for help. This is what develops trust in Yah that He will always keep His promises.

Miles: You know George Müller?

Dave: Yep! … Well, I know of him. He died something like 120 years ago or so!

Miles: Funny guy. You know what I mean. Anyway. Great man of faith. A true faith-warrior. He once said, quote: "Faith is the assurance that the things which [Yahuwah] said in His word are true; and that [He] will act according to what He has said in His Word. This assurance, this reliance on [Yahuwah's] Word, this confidence, is Faith."

Dave: That’s a beautiful way of putting it. Faith is essential to accessing the power of the divine name. Romans 10:17 explains that “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Yah.”

This is why Yahuwah gave us His name! He’s trying to inspire faith and trust in us. His name itself is a promise that He will BE everything you need in order to be saved. When His name is combined with a need, it becomes a promise that your need will be fulfilled.

Miles and I have compiled a list of some of our favorite promises that use the name of Yah.

Miles: If any of you listening want to grab a pen and paper, we’ll be giving some Bible texts with this as well.

Dave: Are you sick? Your need, combined with His name, becomes His promise that you will be healed. Exodus 15:26 states: “I AM Yahuwah that healeth thee.”

Miles: Are you afraid? In Psalm 9:9, He says: “I AM your Refuge. Be safe!”

Dave: Are you weak? Psalm 27, verse 1 says I AM your Strength. Be strong!

Miles: Are you overwhelmed by life and its struggles? Exodus 15:3 says I AM a Man of War. Be delivered!

Dave:
We could go on and on. But the point is: Call upon the name of Yahuwah! Claim the divine promises! He wants you to! If you don’t remember anything else from today’s program, I want you to remember this: when you combine the name of Yahuwah with your need, you have a divine command that contains within it the power to meet your need. When your faith grasps the promise of His name, He will keep His Word. He will BE all that you need Him to be.

Miles: This is Yah’s intended means for our overcoming, folks. When your faith grasps that the power to fulfill the promise is contained in the very word of Yah itself, you will know that you can declare it and it is so. It’s that simple. Not because of any goodness in you, but because of who He is: the Creator; and what He is: your Father who loves you.

So don’t put it off! It takes time to gain a personal experience with Yah.

Dave: Before we close, Miles, I was wondering if you could share with us some of those names you learned about from Dr. Hardinge. The composite names that can be claimed as promises.

Miles: Oh, yeah! Sure. Grab that pen and paper again, people. This is really inspiring. I’m probably going to slaughter the Hebrew pronunciation, but you’ll get the idea. This is info that’s been lost in translation, but once you know it’s there, Scripture just comes alive and you start seeing promises you never knew were there before!

Okay. Uh, Psalm 27:1 — Yah Ma'on – I AM [your] Strength

Psalm 18:18 — Yah Lemish'ka – I AM Your Support

Psalm 3, verse 3 — Yah Magen – I AM Your Shield

Exodus 15:26 — Yah Ropheka – I AM your Healer

Psalm 18:3 — Yah Sal'I – I AM your Rock

Judges 6:24 –Yah Shalom – I AM your Peace

Numbers 35:34 –Yah Shoken – I AM He Who Dwells With You

Ezekiel 48:35 –Yah Shammah – I AM There

Psalm 121:5 –Yah Shibreka – I AM Your Keeper

Deuteronomy 16:1 –Yah Eloheka – I AM Your Covenant-Keeping Mighty One

I could go on and on. There are literally hundreds more. But you get the idea.

Dave:
His statements, claimed by faith, become your self-fulfilling promises!

Miles: I want to insert really quickly one caveat. Yahuwah is not some divine, magical slot machine: you say the right words and get what you want. His promises are always conditional. The condition, of course, is obedience.

But don’t let fear keep you back. We all make mistakes. That’s why He’s given us His name. He wants us to use it!

Dave: Let’s close with something Yahushua said in John 16:24. This is one of the last things He said before His betrayal and crucifixion. But, as the Father’s representative, this is Yah’s message to us today.

You have it? Go ahead and read it.

Miles: “Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.”

Amen.

* * *Daily Mailbag (Miles & Dave)

Miles: Hey, we’ve got our first question from Gabon!

Dave:
Where?

Miles: Gabon. It’s in western Africa. In fact, 80% of Africa’s gorilla population lives in Gabon. I’ve seen pictures of the country. It’s gorgeous.

Anyway. Back to our question. Giselle and Pierre-Andre have written. They say: “We have a question about lying. This may sound strange, but: Is lying a sin? If not automatically a sin, under what circumstances does it become a sin?”

Dave: That’s an interesting question and one I’ve never been asked before. This couple obviously knows their Bible stories very well because it’s true there are instances in Scripture when a person has lied and actually been blessed for it!

Miles: Yeah, I remember a pastor once trying to say that it was wrong but coming from the right place so Yah overlooked it because the person didn’t know any better. You don’t agree?

Dave: No. I don’t. I think there are some instances in which we are supposed to lie. At the same time, Scripture is clear that there is one type of lying that is never acceptable. But we’re getting a bit ahead of ourselves.

Grab your Bible there and turn to Genesis 3 and read the first five verses for us.

Miles: All right … uh: “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which Yahuwah Eloah had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath Eloah said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, Eloah hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For Eloah doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”

Dave: Here we have the first lie. It is what introduced sin into our world. It’s also where we first encounter Satan’s greatest weapon: the half-truth.

Satan knew Adam and Eve weren’t going to die the very second they touched the fruit. He knew death would come more gradually, and by getting Eve to touch the fruit and yet still live, he got Adam and Eve to believe the half-truth.

Miles: They didn’t die that day, but they still died.

Dave: Right, and he’s been deceiving the human race with half-truths ever since.

Miles: So, if a person can actually be blessed for lying, obviously not all lying is wrong. Under what circumstances would lying be acceptable?

Dave:
To preserve innocent life. Turn to Exodus 1. This book opens with the story of Pharaoh worrying about how large the Children of Israel were growing and deciding to commit selective genocide.

Read verses 15 and 16 when you have it.

Miles: “And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah: And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.”

Dave: Pharaoh was an absolute monarch. His word was law. And the law was: kill the Hebrew boy babies. Now read the next verse.

Miles: “But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.” [Exodus 1:17]

Dave:
Saying the women “saved” the boy babies alive is a rather weak translation. What the original word actually communicates is that the midwives did everything in their power to make sure the boys survived. If a little baby was having trouble breathing, they’d do chest compressions, they’d do whatever it took to keep that child alive.

Miles: That took a lot of courage.

Dave: Oh, it did! And they couldn’t keep the secret for very long. Now read verses 18 and 19.

Miles: “And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive? And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.”

Basically, they’re saying, “Our Hebrew women are just stronger than your puny Egyptian women and they’ve already given birth by the time we get there!”

Dave: That’s clearly a lie because the verse right before it tells us the midwives actively preserved the babies’ lives. They were lying to the king. And what was Yah’s response? Read verses 20 and 21.

Miles: “Therefore Yah dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty. And it came to pass, because the midwives feared Eloah, that he made them houses.”

Dave: Yahuwah blessed the midwives. Yes, they lied. But Pharaoh’s law was unjust. His law broke the eternal, divine law which states “Thou shalt not kill.” [Exodus 20:13] And don’t kid yourself into thinking that the law wasn’t given until Sinai. Yes, it was spoken then, but prior to that time, people still had a knowledge of the unchanging nature of Yah’s law and its requirements.

Miles: Yeah. Romans 3:23: “All have sinned, and come short of the glory of Yah.” John tells us, “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” [1 John 3:4] So, by the Bible’s own definition of sin, for “all” to have sinned—including everyone who lived prior to Sinai—there had to be some knowledge of the law.

Dave:
Well said. So. The law of Yah states “Thou shalt not kill.” In lying to the king, the midwives were thwarting his law which actually broke Yah’s law. In essence, the midwives were keeping Yah’s law when they lied to the king.

Miles: Kind of like Rahab. When the two Israelite spies came to Jericho, she saved their lives even though she lied to do it.

Dave: Why don’t you read that for us?

Miles: Okay, uh, Joshua 2 has the story. It says:

Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there. And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country. And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.

And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were: And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.

But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof. And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate. [Joshua 2:1-7]

Dave:
So, here again, we have a person lying but it is to preserve innocent life. Rahab knew the king of Jericho would kill the two Israelites, likely after torturing them. She also knew that killing was wrong. So, in lying to the king, she saved the lives of the two men, as well as the lives of her own family when her family was the only one that was saved at the fall of Jericho.

Miles: More than that, she married an Israelite. Their son was Boaz, who married Ruth. So Rahab herself was an ancestress to Yahushua.

I like your point that lying is acceptable if it is to preserve innocent life because that supports the greater principle: “Thou shalt not kill.”

But.

Dave: I knew there was going to be a “but” in there somewhere.

Miles: Well, what about the commandment that says, “Thou shalt not lie”?

Dave:
That’s not what it says. Exodus 20, verse 16. The ninth commandment. It says, and I quote: “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” Bearing false witness against someone, telling untruths about them that hurt them, or otherwise damage their reputation, that is what the law of Yah forbids.

Turn to Proverbs 16. Lying becomes a sin when any hint of selfishness or self-serving enters in. Read verses 16, 17 and 19, please.

Miles: “These six things doth Yahuwah hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood … A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”

Dave: A person bears false witness to hurt the other person and to further his or her own selfish interests. This is an abomination to Yahuwah. But if telling a lie preserves innocent life, we are to do that.

Miles: I guess we all like the black and white of “Do this/don’t do that.” It’s easier. But I can see how that can be lazy. We’re to take into account broader principles in every situation, and the preservation of life is one such broader principle.

Thanks for explaining this, Dave. I found it interesting, too.

* * *Daily Promise

This is Elise O’Brien with your daily promise from Yah’s Word.

Diane was a young university student. On a visit home, she spent one evening catching up with her friends. The time passed quickly as the young people laughed and shared stories of their experiences during the school year. Diane ended up leaving for home much later than she’d anticipated, but she wasn’t worried. It was her hometown, after all, and quite small. Besides, she lived just a few blocks away.

She wasn’t stupid, though. As she walked, she darted a quick prayer heavenward, asking Yahuwah to protect her and bring her safely home.

On the way home, she came to an alley. It was a shortcut to her house that she always took and had never had any problems before. When Diane was halfway down the alley, she saw a man loitering at the other end, almost as though he were waiting for her. She felt uneasy and began to pray, again asking for divine protection. Instantly, she was suffused with a feeling of comfort, peace, and security. She felt as though someone were walking with her. When she reached the end of the alley, she strode right past the man with her head held high and soon was safe at home.

The following day she saw in the news that a young girl had been raped in that same alley, not 20 minutes after she had passed through. This was shocking and overwhelming, as you can imagine! She began crying and thanking Yah for protecting her.

To try and help the young woman who had been raped, she went to the police station and told them that she had seen a man standing around there just minutes before the rape occurred. The police asked if she would be willing to look at a lineup to see if she could identify the perpetrator. She agreed and was immediately able to identify the man she’d seen in the alley.

When the man was told he’d been identified, it didn’t take him long to confess. The officers thanked Diane for coming in and took down her contact information. Diane then asked them if they would ask the man one question for her. She wanted to know why he hadn’t attacked her!

The answer shouldn’t surprise anyone who knows Yah. When the police asked the man why he had left Diane alone, he replied: “Because she wasn’t alone. There were two tall men walking on either side of her.”

Psalm 34 says: “I sought Yahuwah, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried out, and Yahuwah heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of Yahuwah all around those who fear Him, and delivers them.” [Psalm 34:4-7]

When you’re afraid, when you need protection and help, Yahuwah is there for you. He’s just waiting to answer the prayers of His children.

We’ve been given great and precious promises. Go, and start claiming!

* * *Part 3: (Miles & Dave)

Miles: Daniel was told that, at the end, knowledge would be increased. What’s so thrilling now, is that we are living during that time period when knowledge is being increased.

Dave:
It really is an exciting time to be alive. And it’s a process. First we learn that “god” and “lord” are mere titles. Then we learn what the Creator’s name actually is.

Miles: And now we know that the name itself is the most powerful name in the universe! I finally understand all these passages that tell us to “call upon the name of the Lord.” We’re really to “Call upon the name of Yahuwah.”

Dave: If you still have your Bible close at hand, turn to Zephaniah 3, verse 9. This is a fascinating prophecy that is being fulfilled with this restored knowledge of the name of Yahuwah.

Miles: “I will restore to the peoples a pure language,
That they all may call on the name of Yahuwah,
To serve Him with one accord.”

Dave:
The very fact that knowledge is now being restored of the promise hidden in the Father’s personal name, should encourage us to face the days ahead. It tells us that there is absolutely nothing the Father will not do, absolutely nothing He will not provide when it comes to our physical, mental, emotional and, most importantly, spiritual well being.

In Isaiah 55, He’s revealed that His very words contain the power to do what the words say.

In Exodus 3, He’s given us His personal name which, combined with your need, then becomes a self-fulfilling promise.

Miles: That is such an incredibly powerful, yet beautiful concept. I never get tired of hearing it.

Every day, we close with an appeal to get to know the Father for yourself.

Dave: It’s going to require confidence in the great I AM, in His love and His ability to deliver.

Miles: It’s going to require confidence in His word. And the best way to obtain that confidence is to start making it a daily habit now, today, to take Him at His word; to believe in the infinite power of His word.

We all need to get to know Yahuwah as the great I AM for ourselves.

Dave: The Bible is so full of promises and knowing that the very name of Yahuwah is itself the most powerful promise of all, should inspire each one of us to get our hearts and our lives right with Him.

Miles: Well, you can’t get yourself ready. It’s not a works trip.

Dave:
No. It’s not salvation by abstinence from what you’d really be doing if Yah’s Word didn’t prohibit it.

Miles: Salvation by will power!

Dave: No. It’s not that. It’s, always, salvation by faith: faith in the promises of a Father who loves us. Faith that when we call upon His name, He will hear and answer us. And that, whatever we need in order to be saved, He will provide.

Miles: I’d like to close with a quote from Patrick Overton. He said, quote: “When we walk to the edge of all the light we have and take the step into the darkness of the unknown, we must believe that one of two things will happen. There will be something solid for us to stand on or we will be taught to fly.”

I would like to suggest that the ground we stand on, as well as the wings by which we fly, come to us as a gift through the powerful promise contained in the personal name of Yah: BE.

Join us again tomorrow, and until then, remember: Yahuwah loves you . . . and He is safe to trust!
